Over 34.84 Lakh Audit Reports Filed on Income Tax e-Filing Portal by October 7, 2024

Tax compliance in India has seen remarkable progress in 2024. As of October 7, over 34.84 lakh audit reports were successfully submitted on the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal. This includes an impressive 34.09 lakh Tax Audit Reports (TARs) for Assessment Year (AY) 2024-25, marking a 4.8% year-on-year growth compared to the previous AY.

This surge in audit report submissions reflects a greater commitment to compliance among taxpayers and emphasizes the growing efficiency of India’s digital tax filing system.

Streamlined Filing Process and Increased Outreach

The Income Tax Department has taken various steps to simplify the process for taxpayers, ensuring a smooth and efficient filing experience. To facilitate this, the Department launched an extensive outreach campaign, utilizing various communication channels, including:

  • Emails and SMS notifications
  • Webinars and social media campaigns
  • Regular updates on the Income Tax e-filing portal

Additionally, user-friendly video tutorials were uploaded to guide taxpayers through the process of filing different audit forms, including Forms 10B, 10BB, 3CA-CD, 3CB-CD, and other relevant reports such as Forms 29B, 29C, and 10CCB. These initiatives not only raised awareness but also made the entire process more accessible.

Proactive Helpdesk Support

The e-filing Helpdesk was instrumental in assisting taxpayers through the filing season. Between September and October 2024, the Helpdesk efficiently handled over 1.23 lakh queries through a combination of:

  • Inbound and outbound calls
  • Live chat and WebEx sessions
  • Co-browsing sessions for real-time support

Moreover, the Department’s X handle (formerly Twitter) was a crucial tool in resolving queries via Online Response Management (ORM), offering real-time solutions and guidance.

Towards a Digital-First Tax Ecosystem

The notable increase in TAR filings showcases a growing trust in India’s digital tax infrastructure. As more taxpayers embrace the e-filing system, the Income Tax Department’s goal of establishing a fully digital tax ecosystem is within reach. The emphasis on providing extensive resources and prompt support has made the tax compliance process smoother and more user-friendly.

By making tax filing less daunting and ensuring accessible assistance at every step, the Income Tax Department is paving the way for a future where tax compliance becomes second nature for all taxpayers—whether individuals or businesses.
